Hysteretic nonequilibrium Ising-Bloch transition.

We show that a parametrically driven cubic-quintic complex Ginzburg-Landau equation exhibits a hysteretic nonequilibrium Ising-Bloch transition for large enough quintic nonlinearity. These results help to understand the recent experimental observation of this phenomenon [A. Esteban-Martín, Phys. Rev. Lett. 94, 223903 (2005)].

Ising and Bloch domain walls in a two-dimensional parametrically driven Ginzburg-Landau equation model with nonlinearity management.

We study a parametrically driven Ginzburg-Landau equation model with nonlinear management. The system is made of laterally coupled long active waveguides placed along a circumference. Stationary solutions of three kinds are found: periodic Ising states and two types of Bloch states, staggered and unstaggered. The stability of these states is investigated analytically and numerically. The nonlin...

Complexes of stationary domain walls in the resonantly forced Ginsburg-Landau equation.

The parametrically driven Ginsburg-Landau equation has well-known stationary solutions-the so-called Bloch and Ne el, or Ising, walls. In this paper, we construct an explicit stationary solution describing a bound state of two walls. We also demonstrate that stationary complexes of more than two walls do not exist.

Spontaneous symmetry breaking of population in a nonadiabatically driven atomic trap: an Ising-class phase transition.

We have observed spontaneous symmetry breaking of the population of Brownian particles between two moving potentials in the spatiotemporally symmetric system. Cold atoms preferentially occupy one of the dynamic double-well potentials, produced in the parametrically driven dissipative magneto-optical trap far from equilibrium, above a critical number of atoms. We find that the population asymmet...

Universal criterion and amplitude equation for a nonequilibrium Ising-Bloch transition.

We identify a universal criterion for the onset of a nonequilibrium Ising-Bloch (NIB) transition, and describe the behavior near the bifurcation by a generic amplitude equation. We found that a NIB transition is caused by an antisymmetric eigenvector passing the translational mode of the system at a critical point. In this context we discuss Hamiltonian and dissipative systems. We report on a N...
